Short Story No. 1

I watched your headlights pass me, disappearing into the the dark twists and turns. I wanted to yell out to you, to explain. Despite my own worst intentions, my mind always wandered back. Mexican beer running through my system and the notorious valley wind blowing my hair, I pulled my hat down over my ears and kept walking. My heart sank as the sound of your diesel engine grew distant and faded. Staring into the nothing and engulfed in the cold darkness I walked blindly down that road, my boots rubbing the skin off of my heel-I never wore the right socks with these damn cowboy boots.
